This movie didn't do for the ocean what 'Jaws' did for the ocean.

Before 'Sharktopus', there was 'Devil Fish'; one of the lost films of Lamberto Bava. Unfortunately for him, it didn't stay that way. Released under his pseudonym, John Old Jr., Lamberto was lucky for many years this movie went forgotten until popularized in the late '90s by 'Mystery Science Theater 3000'. His father, Mario Bava, was known as one of the great Italian cinematographers and directors of all-time. Credited with films like 'Black Sunday', 'Black Sabbath', 'Bay of Blood' -- which helped father the modern slasher -- 'Planet of the Vampires' and 'Shock'. Luckily for Lamberto, he shared some of the same success as his father and quickly rebounded 'Devil Fish' with the Dario Argento-produced 'Demons' duology. Unfortunately for his hardcore fans, since his success in the mid-to-late '80s, he has been mostly a made-for-television director, making it extremely hard to find his released works from the last 25 years.

This movie is, by far, the worst of his movies. Bad editing, bad writing, bad acting, and just because I can, bad editing -- again -- make this monster movie a real disaster. This ridiculous sea-creature-saga follows Dr. Stella Dickens as she strives to capture a genetically engineered shark-octopus hybrid that’s terrorizing South Florida beaches. It's just your regular tale of boy meets girl. Girl falls for boy. Boy and girl discover gigantic, prehistoric, human-consuming, super sea beast. You know -- one of those movies.

There's very little plot; and with that, very little review. I can't really expand beyond this point, so, yeah.

On my scale:
Overall Enjoyment ----3
Redeeming Qualities---7
Rewatchability---------2
Directing/Quality------3
Plot/Storyline----------2
Pacing-----------------1
Dialogue/Writing-------4
Acting-----------------3
TOTAL---------------25

Currently, this is the worst score a film has gotten. I find myself at a crossroads considering I rate this lower than 'Mean Girls 2'. But, goddamn, this movie was fucking shit. The only reason why it received a 7 for "Redeeming Qualities" is because I found some enjoyment in it. I mean, a dead guy with no legs gets airlifted out of the ocean. "Directing" is a 3 because, although it's terrible, I think they did the best they could with this one. Everything points to a challenging shoot and not even Lamberto Bava wanted his name in the credits. I guess the point they're trying to make is don't fuck with mother nature.Anyway, the movie turns out terribly. I can go either way on this, but I guess I won't give this a recommendation. So, I guess the Master does not approve.
